Privacy Policy

This page explains what personal information the Zamfara Internal Revenue Service (ZIRS) collects through this website, why, and how it is handled. It is written to reflect what this site actually does. If any part of it is unclear or you believe it is incomplete, contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly, including:
- Tax filings and objections — your Tax ID, name, contact details, and the financial information required to file an annual return or lodge an objection to an assessment.
- Identity verification (OTP) — when you request to edit a filing, we send a one-time code to the email or phone number already on file for that Tax ID, to confirm it's you before allowing changes.
- Grievances, suggestions, and whistleblower reports — the details you submit through these forms. The whistleblower form does not require your name, phone, or email — you may submit anonymously, or include contact details if you want a response.
- Newsletter subscription — the email address you provide to receive tax notices and updates.
We also store limited technical information in your browser, not on our servers: your accessibility preferences (text size, contrast) and whether you've dismissed a site notice. This stays on your device and is never sent to us.
How we use this information
To process the filing, objection, grievance, suggestion, or report you submitted; to verify your identity before letting you edit a filing; to send tax deadline reminders and, if you've subscribed, newsletter updates; and to respond to you where you've asked us to.
Third parties we use to run this site
We use a small number of external services to operate this site. They process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:
- Cloudinary — stores uploaded files and images (e.g. supporting documents attached to a filing or objection).
- Termii — delivers OTP codes and notification emails/SMS.
- Tawk.to — powers the live chat widget on this site, and has its own privacy practices for chat conversations.
How long we keep it
We retain tax filing and objection records for as long as required for revenue administration and audit purposes. Grievance, suggestion, and whistleblower submissions are kept for as long as needed to review and act on them.
